Georgsmarienhütte GmbH is one of the leading European suppliers of high-quality crude steel, bar steel and bright steel as well as components made from quality and engineering steels. Our steel is produced from scrap using the electric arc furnace route. Together with our partners, we have been continuously developing steel as a product for years. This results in ever lighter, stronger and more stable alloys that give our customers clear competitive advantages. High-strength steel that is as light as possible is the key material for economically efficient lightweight construction.
Carbon Footprint. Product by Product.
Georgsmarienhütte GmbH calculates the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of its steel products using product- and order-specific process, material and energy data. The calculation follows a cradle-to-gate approach and covers the greenhouse gas emissions included within the defined system boundaries.
The methodology has been independently validated and complies with relevant standards, including ISO 14067 and ISO 22095. This enables customers to use product-specific CO₂e data for their own carbon accounting and decarbonization activities.
Depending on their requirements, customers can also choose steel produced with additional measures to reduce Scope 1 and/or Scope 2 CO₂e emissions, including the use of electricity from renewable sources and biogenic carbon.
Our commitment to climate, environment and social responsibility
Georgsmarienhütte GmbH was the first steelworks to be admitted to the Climate Protection Companies initiative. In addition to climate and environmental protection, we are also actively involved in social issues through our foundation.
