Development expertise

Innovation is essential in the various sectors of the energy industry, and not only where renewable energy, climate protection and energy-efficiency are concerned. In close cooperation with our customers, the experts in our application development departments evolve successful new solutions that meet or even exceed our customers’ requirements and expectations, not least of all in terms of economic efficiency. Innovative components for pumps, valves and the entire oil rig industry play a key role, as do high-strength, highly temperature-resistant steels that boost the overall efficiency of thermal power stations.

Safety

We supply specialised products for energy generation in reactors. The enormous loads that these products withstand impressively illustrate the immense challenges that confront our specialist teams every day. At Energietechnik Essen, for example, we manufacture rotor retaining rings that stand up to enormous centrifugal forces and guarantee the safety of turbo-generators in energy generation plants around the world. In many cases, it is only our generator shafts and our components for rotor gears in offshore wind-energy installations that make the safe and dependable supply of energy at all possible.

In industries in which safety and efficiency are critical, reliability is the crucial factor in success. It is for precisely this reason that we have in place an ultra-reliable, all-encompassing quality assurance system, supply only exhaustively tested materials, and manufacture components to the highest accuracy standards. The materials we use in our and our customers’ products comply with all relevant international standards and with our customers' specifications. We can guarantee optimum repeatable results of the very highest quality because we produce on our own, high-performance facilities with the security of a quality management system that leaves nothing to chance. We thus do everything in our power to ensure that our customers' competitiveness remains assured - both now and in the future.

Capabilities that inspire trust

High-tech

Our Schmiedewerke Gröditz forging facilities validate our claim to make no compromises where quality and precision are concerned. For the ITER nuclear reactor – yet another global-level project - our experts fabricated not only thirty-five forged radial plates with item weights of around 25 tonnes, they also supplied the highly complex hammer forgings for the so-called vacuum vessel – high-tech executed to ultra-demanding technical specifications.

Waste-heat recovery and utilisation

At our facilities in Georgsmarienhütte and Gröditz we have further refined sophisticated technologies to ensure the most efficient possible use of the unavoidable waste heat yielded in steel mills - for utilisation both in our production plants and for feeding of surplus process heat into the regional district heating system. Even our steelmaking plant in Georgsmarienhütte alone saves an annual 900 tonnes of CO2 in this way. This has earned it high acclaim from the German Energy Agency (dena) as a "Beacon of energy-efficient use of waste heat".

Sustainability

Energy-efficiency and climate protection are necessary in the steel industry, too. Efficient use of waste heat in our facilities is a strategy that we implement consistently and successfully. All the other demands made on us are equally exacting, however, and we are working unceasingly on the optimisation of our production processes and logistical procedures. In addition to this, our production activities take place exercising the greatest possible care to ensure maximum conservation of natural resources: for this reason, for example, we have in place an ultra-efficient recycling system, because: Steel is 100% recyclable.
