Tool Steel by Schmiedewerke Gröditz
Our tool steel is used for the production of tools, molds and standard parts, for example in the areas of aluminum die casting or plastic injection molding.
Schmiedewerke Gröditz is an integrated steel plant operating two powerful open-die forging presses (27 MN and 60 MN) and three advanced ESR facilities. We primarily supply global stockholding distributors as well as end users through our dedicated service centers located in Burg (Germany, GWB) and Istanbul (Turkey, GCE).
Our product range focuses on high-quality plastic mould steels, die steels, hot-work steels for die casting, and stainless steels, available in annealed or heat-treated condition. We offer both conventionally produced and ESR-remelted grades.
Gröditz specializes in large-scale forgings, including die holders, mould frames, and tooling materials for giga-casting applications. Flat materials are available starting from 250 mm thickness, and round materials from 300 mm diameter.

Plastic Molding
High-performance solutions for demanding applications. For decades, we have been a reliable partner to the tool and mould-making industry as well as to the plastics processing sector.
We produce standard and special steel grades tailored specifically for plastic injection moulding, compression moulding, blow molding and plastic extrusion applications.
High- and Low-Pressure Die Casting
Die casting tools are exposed to high thermal loads, cyclic stresses, and demanding operating conditions.
Our tool steel solutions combine excellent toughness with high heat resistance to reduce the risk of premature tool failure. This supports longer tool life, reliable performance, and stable casting processes.
Die Forging
Forging dies and die holders must withstand high mechanical and thermal loads while maintaining dimensional stability throughout their service life.

Press Hardening
Press hardening places particularly high demands on tooling due to intensive wear, elevated temperatures, and repeated mechanical stress.

Shearing, Blanking, Punching/Piercing & Trimming

Coining, Bending, Drawing & Embossing
Coining, bending and embossing tools require high strength and wear resistance while maintaining dimensional stability under continuous mechanical stress.
Our cold work tool steels provide the toughness and processability needed for precise forming operations and consistent component quality. Their excellent machinability also supports efficient tool manufacturing and maintenance.

Cold and thread rolling tools are exposed to very high contact and compressive loads.
Our cold work tool steels combine high compressive strength, wear resistance, and toughness to maintain tool geometry and reliable performance over long production cycles. This supports consistent component quality, extended tool life, and stable, cost-efficient processes.
