Sustainability
GMH Gruppe lives sustainability by tradition. Our corporate activities are based on the fundamental principles of dialog, economic efficiency, innovation, value orientation and compliance.
Our drive
Our concept reveals at first glance which aspects most strongly shape our business activities: We have identified the three most important areas of sustainable development for us and translated them into three central fields of action. The basis for this is the established three-pillar model (economy, ecology and social affairs), which we have specified for application in the steel industry.
Since the future of the industry can only be shaped successfully with the strict implementation of sustainable strategies, we have assigned the area of responsibility for sustainability directly to the CEO of the Group. This gives us the opportunity to set sustainable strategic goals for entire GMH Gruppe and to centrally coordinate operational implementation at the production sites.
GMH Gruppe has been honored by the "Climate Protection and Energy Efficiency Group of German Business" for outstanding climate protection and energy efficiency achievements and has been accepted into the association of climate protection companies. This makes the group one of a total of 51 members from all over Germany to receive such an honor from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection and the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce.
Every success has its story
GMH Gruppe has been pursuing sustainable strategies since 1993 in order to be able to implement and further develop its business model in the long term. Our steel production is based on the melting down of scrap, i.e. the reuse of the steel content of products that are no longer used and discarded. Our processes are focused on electric melting and therefore require hardly any carbon carriers. For this reason our CO₂ emissions are significantly lower than in the conventional steel industry. Find out more about this topic under Green Steel.
In view of climate change, further reducing our CO₂ emissions is highly relevant for us as an energy-intensive company. Our goal is clear: We want to reduce these emissions to zero by 2039.
