Our on-site toolmaking department, production processes with built-in ultra-efficiency thanks to forming-process simulation, our high levels of automation, unparalleled materials know-how and ultra-stringent quality assurance system form the basis that enables us to meet individual customer requirements exactly, and on time, every time. Our precision drop forgings are the driving force behind whole industries.

Our products are produced and supplied in constant conformity to the very highest quality standards. This quality is assured by our certified quality management system, approvals issued by inspection organisations of global repute and wide-ranging measuring and inspection systems, including tests and analyses performed in our on-site materials laboratory.

Our production facilities

On-site toolmaking

The expert toolmakers in our fully equipped on-site toolmaking shop are the guarantee of high-quality forged products. This is where customers' requirements and needs are made reality in the form of tailor-crafted dies and matrices that precisely reproduce the customer's specifications. Forming-process simulation ensures maximum dimensional accuracy and absolutely flawless results. Depth of production extends from roughing machining of the die block to machining on NC and CNC lathes and milling machines and/or 5-axis milling centres. On-site tool assembly and die welding facilities, backed up by close consultation with the forging experts, ensure exact meeting of customer specifications.

Drop forging

Optimised materials, production and organisational efficiency, combined with the special strength properties achieved in our products thanks to detailed attention to correct grain orientation, are what make our drop forgings special. We ensure this by means of preliminary shaping equipment installed upstream the forming machines in all production systems. Schmiedag GmbH's range of machines and other equipment includes automated feed systems, pre-forming and handling systems, industrial robots and highly efficient heat-treatment facilities.

Our presses and forging hammers:

  • 160 kNm and 320 kNm counterblow hammers
  • 45 MN spindle press
  • 31.5 MN eccentric press

Machining and surface finishing

Our products cover the entire value chain, from the blank forging up to and including the ready-to-use component. Produced in optimally harmonised processes, delivered reliably and on time, either roughing, finished and/or ready-to-use machined. Our machining and heat-treating facilities include:

  • Machining centres

  • Induction hardening systems
  • Surface finishing (painting/coating)

Our history

  • 1824

    The foundation stone for the present-day Schmiedag GmbH is laid when Peter Dallhaus establishes a forge in the Eckesey district of Hagen.

  • 1873

    Grüntaler Eisenwerke AG is founded on the existing forge site.

  • 1928

    Schmiedag AG is set up as a firm of mechanical engineers. The company assets include an integrated forge and a number of production facilities.

  • 1928

    Acquisition of Schwinn AG, a die-forging company registered in Homburg an der Saar originally founded in 1905.

  • 1931

    Both companies are acquired by Hoesch AG.

  • 1991

    The Hagen and Homburg locations are acquired by Ascometal S.A.. The ASCOFORGE group is formed.

  • 1999

    Schmiedag GmbH becomes part of GMH Gruppe.
