Customised solutions in steel

Diversity

Diversity is our watchword: diversity in open-die forgings and ring-rolled products, in heat treatment and in semi- and finish machining. Our materials portfolio comprises around 300 grades of steel with more than 2,000 composition variants.

Certified quality

We guarantee the high quality of our products by means of a certified quality management system, backed up by comprehensive chemical analyses and material tests, in addition to metallographic and mechanical/technological analyses.

Committed to sustainability

We help our customers to make reality of their visions and requirements with our expert knowledge – on the reliable foundation of our 240 years of experience.

Our production facilities

A high-performance electric-steel plant

This is where we produce the steels for the casting of ingots (up to a maximum of 76 tonnes), and billets and blooms (round, rectangular, slabs and polygons). An electroslag-remelting (ESR) facility is available for the refining of our high-quality steels (maximum ingot weight: 84 tonnes).
In our steelmaking plant, we produce 300 grades of steel with more than 2,000 composition variants.

Diverse range of open-die forgings

Not only steel bar, but also forgings with complicated geometries are produced for particularly demanding applications. We have, for this purpose, among other options, two high-performance open-die forging presses: one of 27 MN and one of 60 MN of forging pressure.

Ring-rolling plant for seamless rolled rings, rail-vehicle tyres and flanges

We produce seamless-rolled rings with rectangular or contoured cross-sections, and also rail-vehicle tyres in more than 100 different grades of steel. These are used in mechanical and plant engineering, the rail rolling-stock industry, energy engineering, gearing and engine manufacturing, and also in the chemicals and petrochemicals industries. Structural steels, fine-grained structural steels, creep-resistant high-temperature steels, stainless acid and heat-resistant steels, quenching and tempering steels, tool steels, rolling-element bearing steels and special steels for the production of rail-vehicle tyres are selected for these products. Tyres for rail vehicles are a prominent feature of our product range. Our extremely good performance record has earned us "Q1 Supplier" classification from Deutsche Bahn AG – the top rating for the German rail-transport corporation's suppliers.

The flexibility that benefits our customers

We have the machinery and systems in place that enable us to turn customers’ individual wishes for machining of rolled and forged products into reality within our company. These facilities include turning, milling, drilling and sawing machines for semi- and finish machining. Our on-site heat-treatment systems cover a large range of technical specifications, from soft annealing, via normalising, up to and including oil and water quenching and tempering (horizontal / vertical).

  • 1825

The foundations are laid for a blast furnace.

  • 1883

A malleable iron foundry is constructed.

  • 1901

    Construction of a steel foundry.

  • 1915

    An open-hearth furnace is constructed.

  • 1945

Dismantling of the plant as war-reparations.

  • 1947

    Reconstruction begins.

  • 1952

The first electric arc furnace goes on stream.

  • 1954

The 60 MN forging press comes into use.

  • 1974

The tyre-rolling plant is replaced by a modern ring-rolling plant.

  • 1995

Commissioning of the VD/VOD degassing installation, the 27 MN press, the upgraded 60 MN press and the sawing unit in the ring-rolling shop.
