The aims of the foundation

Together we can achieve more: the foundation’s mandate is to concentrate and expand the company’s commitment to sociopolitical and educational as well as cultural and social issues. It supports projects and initiatives that make a sustainable contribution both regionally and nationally to improving community life. The foundation’s goals include advancing the causes of youth welfare and care for the elderly, public healthcare and sport, and supporting art and culture, education and science.

The focus areas for support

The focus over the coming years will be on “preventing young people from becoming isolated, and promoting social integration through targeted activities and measures”. Goals include:

• Achieving equal opportunities from infancy: through targeted socio-pedagogical measures, parents are supported, as are activities in crèches, day nurseries and kindergartens that help prepare children for school. 
• Promotion of social competence in school and its environment: free periods and extra-curricular opportunities at schools are used for this. 
• Supervision and guidance of young people who do not succeed in finding a training position at the first attempt. The objective is to give them specific support in establishing a basis for an improved second attempt, or to find aa new approach to vocational life.

The “Stiftung Stahlwerk Georgsmarienhütte” foundation also supports exceptionally talented young persons by providing them with additional education opportunities in parallel to the knowledge and skills taught through general schooling. Such support is intended to help these talented persons to complete their future studies quickly and successfully. 

Scholarships

The “Stiftung Stahlwerk Georgsmarienhütte” foundation has an extensive scholarship programme for the “Natural Science” and “Engineering” study programmes which are particularly affected by  declining student numbers. The measures planned or implemented by the government and other public bodies in this respect are not sufficient to solve this social problems. This scholarship programme is therefore making a long-term contribution to combating the deficits inherent in education and the ensuing shortage of appropriately qualified persons.
