Dependable documentation

Reliable processing of scrap metal deliveries by app

At GMH Recycling, complete documentation of scrap metal in deliveries and dispatch is important in order to be able to immediately provide suppliers with a digitally filed and evidence-backed confirmation. An app developed by GMH Recycling now ensures better security and efficiency in this regard.

Rain-smudged dockets, barely legible handwriting, transfer errors and manipulations – the traditional means of documenting deliveries and dispatches of scrap metal at GMH Recycling sometimes meant the weighers had to issue queries to the receivers, which took its toll both in terms of time and nerves. But a smartphone app developed by GMH Recycling in cooperation with IDAP GmbH is now putting an end to that. The app reliably and securely gathers all the necessary data, and offers numerous advantages that also meet the requirements of suppliers for complete documentation.

Comprehensive documentation of scrap metal

Fast, stable and error-free: with the smartphone app, data is automatically gathered from all vehicles located on the site premises. This makes gathering and classifying data sets extremely easy: whether it is a question of the supplier, weigh slip number or radioactivity test during initial weighing, or checks by the receiver on the type of scrap, deductions and other findings. Furthermore, photos and informative comments can be added to the data set. Options generated from the master data of the GMH Gruppe SAP system minimise errors during entry. Automated digital staff signatures clarify responsibilities. An integrated blocking concept provides additional security, while queries for receivers are quickly resolved during processing thanks to superimposed call options.

GMH Recycling app for rail

In addition to speeding up road-based processes, a new GMH Recycling app is now also available for rail. Wagon Processing 2.0 by GMH Recycling simplifies the current double-processing of wagons using a weighing slip and hand-held software. The key applications access an SQL database, that of Stadtwerke Osnabrück (Osnabrück’s public utility company) for shunting operations and that of GMH Recycling Logistics for the planning process. Additional interfaces, weighing scales and databases can be connected to the system. This is a huge advantage in practice: thanks to the app, staff can identify every wagon movement anywhere and at any time. Site managers can now issue shunting orders directly to locomotive drivers. At the same time, the logistics division has an overview of all shipments, and reports are generated automatically.

More efficient processing all-round

Be it for HGV or rail wagon operations, mobile data gathering by smartphone app provides security for staff and suppliers in equal measure – through high-quality data sets, fewer queries and errors, and the elimination of possible manipulations. Swift data capture also leads to more efficient handling of deliveries on the weighing scale and in subsequent process steps.
